Sinfonia and Ouverture in the Baroque Era: Terminological Aspect

This article focuses on the use of sinfonia and ouverture as terms in Baroque era. Its relevance is due to fact that an objective picture musical culture impossible without studying authentic terminology, including used names works or their sections. Since there have been no special musicological publications this topic, information obtained a result study can expand traditional ideas about what meant 17th first half 18th century. Sheet music manuscripts well articles from largest European dictionaries time indicate had different meanings. They were not only orchestral, but also solo ensemble even vocal compositions could be regarded symphonies. Moreover, sections, called sinfonias overtures intended for theatrical concert practice, performance at court church. According author, era, contrast modern genre regard so-called Neapolitan opera symphonies French overtures. Thus, these generally much more diversely than it follows those perceptions which theory genres largely based.
